A few weeks ago, I ordered a 25mm (~40 mm equivalent) lens for my camera. After solely using a 35mm lens for the last 3 or so years, it felt like it was time to change it up and refresh my perspective through the viewfinder. At first, I thought that 10mm wouldn’t be that significant of a difference but right away, I found that I was wrong! This lens feels like the perfect amount of wideness while still retaining enough of a “real-life” focal length. It instantly brought me back to when I had fallen in love with a Canonet QL-17 GIII during my street photography / 35mm filmdays.
This shot was one of the first ones I took with the new lens & I don’t know what it was, but this scene intrigued me even though I had walked past it some many times before; maybe I just needed to see it in a wider frame. After taking this shot, I realized right away I was back to keeping most compositions at a 3:2 ratio once again like when I first started shooting years ago. This lens instantly felt natural to me..
I was also noticing the slight differences in character when it came to sharpness, depth, contrast, etc. as I shot with both lenses side by side. It has been refreshing to learn the new “language” of this 25mm lens as I put it through different conditions.
I’m excited to see the work I continue to make with this setup. Stay tuned..

40 was always thought as a dull lens, all cheap film cameras had one. But it’s a great thing in between, my Voigtlander Nokton 40 survived all my sales; and used on a 1.5 x sensor gives an also interesting 60

Dude 🖤🤍 these are looking great for a test drive! The old levee road and bridge... Ouff! Perfect subject for that kind of focal length.
The shot of the branch over the sidewalk really works well too!
Can't wait to see what you find through this new field of view (and damn... For an inexpensive lens it really has lovely character and sharpness.)
