Reading:
Peaceful, subtle, real. Those are the first words that come to mind as I flip through Tim Carpenter’s book Christmas Day, Buck’s Pond Road [published by The Ice Plant]. The rather monotonous landscape & slight change in compositions throughout this walk of his reminds me a lot of the landscapes I grew up around. It’s liberating knowing that this body of work was made during one single morning walk. There’s something about it that just tells me to continue searching for beauty & form around me, even if that involves retracing very familiar steps in places I tend to get bored with. On top of that, it reminds me that you don’t need to make great work all of the time; the most important part is to simply just make work. This book, in my opinion, blends the fine line between the worlds of photography & poetry..

Listening:
So Jealous by Tegan and Sara. This era of T & S reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would play them in the car. I just love the angst and their ability to stab right into the damn heart..
The Letter by The Pretty Ones. So simple, so poetic and just so lovely! Perfect tune for a nice little drive.
Watching:
Three Bilboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, written and directed by Martin McDonagh. “It centers around Mildred Hayes (played by Frances McDormand), a woman whose daughter was raped and killed, and who believes that the local police have not done enough about it. In reaction, she erects three billboards outside of her town that send a message to the sheriff (Woody Harrelson) about the state of the investigation.” This was one of the best films I’ve seen in a while. The character devlopment is out of this world and it truly keeps you invested from start to finish! 10/10 for originality..
