Earlier this month, my lady and I picked a day off to drive up the hill and escape the Sacramento heat with some new friends and our dog, Olive.
It felt refreshing to just snap photos whenever I felt like it with no real creative agenda. There’s nothing that compares to the heavenly sunlight flickering through the firs and pines. It makes for some beautiful grey tonalities..that’s for sure. The air is always crisp up in the mountains; full of fresh herbal and woody aromas. It’s a combination that brings me back to my childhood when we would go on our annual camping trip to Fort Bragg.
It’s immersive. It’s grounding. It’s simply life.
When we arrived at the waterfall, the sunlight was shining elegantly on the pool below. The water was numbingly cold yet rejuvenating. I could’ve sat there and people-watched all day.
We chatted, snacked and enjoyed this serene little escape from the city life.
It’s days like this one that remind me of how magical Northern California is and how important it is to simply appreciate and care for the earth and its creatures.
backstory:
We met Rob and Tasha a few weeks prior at a dog/friend evening park walk that some other friends of ours organized. When Haley and I started inevitably walking side by side with them, we instantly felt like these were our people. The conversation was effortless and even when there were no words being exchanged, it felt just right. I remember getting home later that evening and writing a poem about our interactions with them:
Beautiful my dude 🤍 I can't wait to experience this landscape one day very soon.
